seyDesigns Releases seyDoggie Gotem Theme For RapidWeaver

gotem1

Yesterday, seyDesigns released seyDoggie Gotem theme for RapidWeaver. Gotem is the first RapidWeaver theme that incorporates a new feature: ExtraContent. ExtraContent allows the user to insert extra content into areas of a webpage not normally available in RapidWeaver via a special code snippet that comes bundled with Gotem.

ExtraContent came about when a handful of 3rd party developers got together to address the need for more content spaces in RapidWeaver. While the content area and sidebar are ample space for the vast majority of RapidWeaver users, there are some who want more flexibility to add content in ways keeping with todays modern web designs. ExtraContent was the solution agreed upon by (((Bonsai Studios))), RapidWeaverThemes.com and seyDesign, as an easy means of end users adding more content to their site, in developer designated areas of ExtraContent enabled themes. While these areas will vary from theme to theme, the process will be very much the same. These developers worked closely to come up with a solution that would give all users a common experience.
Features:
ExtraContent enabled
Two ExtraContent areas
10 Custom headers
RWmultitool Ready
Split navigation
Width control
Header height control
3 background textures
Dual sidebar control
Choice of font style
Color control
and more...

Gotem sells for $19.49 (CAD) and you can preview the new theme over at seyDesigns.

pixelmator
The Pixelmator team today updated Pixelmator to version 1.3.1. The updated brings a new Color Management Sheet and a new Refine Selection tool. With the new Color Management Sheet Pixelmator seeks to simplify the process of color management which is often one of the hardest things to grasp for beginning digital photographers and artists. The Refine Selection tool offers users the ability to dramatically improve selections made with selection tools. The tool features Smooth, Feather and size settings and of course works in real-time so you can see the results instantaneously.

Apple Offers Up "iPhone Your Life" Website

Apple debuted a new website Friday designed to help new iPhone owners get the most out of their phones. The "iPhone Your Life" site offers up app recommendations for:

iphoneyourlife

There are also links to an iPhone Tips and Tricks section, App of the Week and Top Apps.

If you've owned your iPhone for awhile you probably won't find anything new and startling here but it seems like a pretty nice place for new owners.

Pixelmater 1.3 Released

pixelmator
Yesterday the brothers Dailide (Saulius and Aidas Dialide are the creators of Pixelmator) announced the immediate availability of Pixelmator 1.3, code named Tempo. The update provides more than a few bug fixes, major performance improvements, click-and-drag Magic Wand, Paint Bucket and Eraser tools, improved Hue and Saturation, Replace Color and Colorized tools, a Smart Palette hiding feature and more.

Pixelmator 1.3 Tempo delivers performance gains in almost every function of the application. It takes even more advantage than before of Core Image, OpenGL, and the power of other Mac-only technologies so that dramatic performance improvements are easily seen when one is working with large images—opening and saving, using filters and adjustments, and more.

We haven't had any time to play with the new version but it sounds like a great update. We use Pixelmator on a regular basis here at AYAAW so we're pretty excited about taking Tempo for a test drive. Do you use Pixelmator? What do you think about the latest version? Post your comments in the comment section.

For more info on the update check out the official Pixelmator Press Release.

You can download the latest version here (if you're a new customer) or just use the built in auto updater.

Netfix Opens Beta Watch Instantly to Most Intel Mac Users

Netflix has opened it's Microsoft Silverlight based "Watch Instantly" option to most Intel Mac users. If you're interested in participating in the program your system needs to meet the following:

  • Intel Base Mac
  • Tiger 10.4.8 or later
  • 1GB of RAM
  • Safari 3 or Firefox 2
Netflix notes that this is a beta player and if you opt in, you may experience problems watching movies on your computer. They also point out that some movies aren't available to watch instantly (we're willing to bet most aren't available) and that if you join the beta program you will no longer be able to watch instantly using Windows Media Player. Ok that last was directed at Windows user but we figured we should probably include it anyways just in case someone out there is using Boot Camp or virtualization software to Watch Instantly on their Mac.
So, if you're into watching movies on your Mac, your options for watching streaming content legally just got a boost. Check out Netfix's blog for more details and if you want to jump in here's the opt in link.

Jon Brown Designs Launches Mac Advertising Network

macads
Jon Brown Designs announced today the launch of a free banner and textual ad network for Mac users only: Mac Advertising Network. The service provides a way for Mac related websites to only display Mac related ads. The service is free and allows users to exchange ads with other Mac Advertising Network users.

Mac enthusiasts may advertise their blog, podcast, application and more. Anyone may sign up to the service to place their banner or textual ads. The minimal trade off is adding a banner (or textual ad) to their site. Websites that are on the network will in turn display their ad on rotational basis. The service is free to all comers, and all ads are closely monitored. Only high quality ads related to the Mac community are approved.

"Mac Advertising Network was created out of a barrage of questions from others who were seeking alternative means to advertise their Mac related service or product", cites Brown. "I myself have purchased several apps from ads found on other websites. Hopefully Mac users will join together and help spread the news about all the great websites, apps and more for the Mac community." This is an amazing opportunity for all of Mac Fans.

For more info see the full press release over at prMac. AYAAW signed up immediately. Hey, free is free and you can't buy that at any price! Hopefully you'll soon be seeing the AYAAW moniker on all your favorite Mac sites. Well maybe you won't be all that thrilled about it but we sure will be!

Paul Thurrott blogs about MyAppleSpace

flame
Idiot extraordinaire Paul Thorrott posted an entry to his "Supersite" for Windows, ripping MyAppleSpace (we posted a blog entry regarding MyAppleSpace as well back on the 9th). Thorrott's lack of brain matter has once again led to unnecessary tripe proliferation on the Worldwide Web and will continue to do so as long as he's allowed access to a computer and the internet.

In case you haven't heard of him, he is a Windows fanboy who's fanaticism knows no bounds. He takes shots at Apple and it's user base every chance he gets. We don't want to encourage upping his "Supersite" traffic by recommending you read his inane blog but if you must, here's the entry about MyAppleSpace. Bring a barf bag though. His "Supersite" is super nausiating to look at and can actually cause permanent cornea scaring as well as night terrors in small children.

Oh, and in case you wanted to comment on the entry, you can't. It appears as though he's disabled commenting.

MyAppleSpace.com debuts

Well it's about time! Finally, a social network just for us Mac geeks. Introducing MyAppleSpace.com/m: "A little space for the rest of us". I've never really been into the whole social networking thing so I'm not sure what if anything I (or AYAAW) will be doing over there but what the heck. If ever there was a reason to join an online social network, a common love of the Mac and all things Apple is probably as good as any. So, if you're a Mac geek like us (me) then head on over to the first, as least as far as I know of, Apple social network.

Now if someone would just tell me what the /m thing at the end of the title is, I could sleep tonight.

Seriously.
I'd like to know.

Aquafadas announces VideoPier v1.0 and VideoPierHD

videopier
From the press release:

Montpellier, France - October 9th 2008 : Aquafadas is pleased to announce the immediate availability of VideoPier and VideoPier HD v1.0. The VideoPier family of products is aimed at videographers who own MPEG-2 or AVCHD camcorders and who struggle with these video formats on their Mac.

VideoPier and VideoPier HD make it very easy to transfer clips from these camcorders to a central location on their Mac, without requiring any conversion, without any loss in quality. The clips appear grouped by Events in the VideoPier elegant user interface, ready to be viewed, organized and converted to any format. VideoPier handles equally well data that has already been copied to disk and will let you access all your clips easily. In addition, VideoPier HD lets you capture HDV material directly from tape based HDV camcorders.

VideoPier and VideoPier HD v1.0 integrates seamlessly with your other video applications and let you use workflows that are not supported by default on the Mac. One example: still using iMovie06 ? Use VideoPier to acquire data from your MPEG2 or AVCHD camcorder; then use the specifically designed iMovie06 export function to send versions of those clips to iMovie06 in a format it understands.VideoPier comes with an extensive set of export functionality, to iMovie 06/08, iPhone, Quicktime and Final Cut (VideoPier HD only).

If you work with MPEG2 and AVCHD material, VideoPier will make your life a lot easier.

Minimum requirements:
* Mac OS X Version 10.4.11 or later

Apple Gives MobileMe Subscribers 60 More Days

mobleme
I just received an email from Apple stating that they're giving me an additional 60 day extension to my subscription because of all the problems they're having. This is in addition to the 30 days they gave us a few weeks ago. Although I haven't had nearly the problems many MobleMe users have had I'll take the 90 day extension. Here's the text of the email:

We have already made many improvements to MobileMe, but we still have many more to make. To recognize our users' patience, we are giving every MobileMe subscriber as of today a free 60 day extension. This is in addition to the one month extension most subscribers have already received. We are working very hard to make MobileMe a great service we can all be proud of. We know that MobileMe's launch has not been our finest hour, and we truly appreciate your patience as we turn this around.

Seems like they're really trying to make things right with their customers. I'm happy with that.

Bannerzest Standard $29 At MacZot

bz
BannerZest, the easiest way to create Flash banners for your website, is on sale for two days at software discount site MacZot. It's regularly $49 so this is a great deal. I use BannerZest Pro regularly for creating fantastic and professional looking banners that I use on my websites. Its drop-dead simple to use and really does create stunning banners. The standard version, which is the one on sale at MacZot, doesn't come with all the bells and whistles but does come with all the major ones. Aquafadas, the development company that makes BannerZest has kindly put up a comparison page that shows the differences between the standard and the pro version. The biggest difference between the two is that you get "Pro" themes with the pro version (no really?). A notable second feature included in the pro version is the ability to create clickable links from the images used in the banner. There are other differences but those were the two biggys for me. If you have the need or the desire to include beautiful Flash banners in your websites you owe it to yourself to check BannerZest out. Especially if you're like me and a total dolt when it comes to Flash. Hurry, though, this deal only lasts through Sunday night at midnight. Did I mention it's only $29? Joe Henry
EDIT: FYI the BannerZest Standard license does not allow banner creation for commercial purposes. The Pro license does but not the Standard. Just wanted to make that clear for anyone taking advantage of this MacZot deal. It's still a great price for a slick piece of software. Who knows, if you asked Aquafadas nicely they might even allow you to upgrade to the Pro version from the MacZot Standard version.

OS X 10.5.5

leopardbox
Appleinsider's Sam Oliver is reporting that Leopard 10.5.5 has been seeded to developers. It looks to squash more than a few bugs and weighs in at a hefty 330 Mb's. The report states the build, 9F13, comes with no know issues and focuses on maintenance and stability. Apparently there are tweaks to iCal, Mail, Address Book, the MobileMe Pref pane,  the BSD Kernel itself and more.

I can't say that I suffer from any of the bugs mentioned in the article, so although I'm always ready to jump on just about any Apple update, this ones a ho-hummer for me. Winking No doubt those afflicted will welcome the update and you can be assured that as soon as its available I'll be installing it and reporting back here. I'll take the bullet for ya'll.

Now would Apple please, pretty please, pretty pretty please, update iPhone 2.0.1? More on my iPhone 3G saga will follow in the coming days. Stay tuned!

Joe Henry

Inaugural Post

Hi and welcome to the inaugural post at "And Yet Another Apple Weblog"!

Hmm... Well now, that's a mouth full. I think from here on out we'll just refer to ourselves as AYAAW. That's kind of catchy, isn't it? Oh and by the way when we say "we", we really mean I. Yep, this is a one guy operation at this point. Perhaps sometime in the future AYAAW will grow and need another writer(s) but that's a long way off at this point. One Mac/iPhone/iPod/Apple geek is more than enough for the present.

So what do we hope you, our (my) intrepid reader will get out of this? Don't know and can't say if I did. As the monicker implies most will probably find this place "just another Apple weblog". Substitute just for and yet and there you are. Hopefully you'll find an interesting bit if Apple related news or information now and then. We (I) might even throw in a review every once in awhile to spice things up. We’ll taint, contaminate, pollute (choose your verb) any and all news and reviews with our own slightly off brand of humor. Hopefully you'll find our, and by our I mean my (okay I'll stop now), brand of humor, well humorous.

That's it then, it's in the books as it were and so to speak. Thanks for reading. Happy

Joe Henry
