What’s in the box:

Speck SeeThru Case

Like all the previous cases we’ve reviewed Speck’s SeeThru is a hard shell, polycarbonate, two-piece case. It’s extremely light weight and if we thought Case-mate’s Clear Naked case felt inconsequential in our hand, the SeeThru feels even more so.

bottom
The SeeThru features rubber finger rail grips running down both sides of the upper part of the case to help you avoid dropping your iPhone. Pull off the bottom, set it on a flat surface and you can use it as a stand for your phone (in landscape mode only). Best of all, however, is the fact that the because the case is made of such thin polycarbonate, cut-outs for buttons and ports don’t really affect your ability to access them as has every other case we’ve reviewed up to this point. This is the first hard, polycarbonate case that we can say that about and that’s no small thing.

For those of you that like to accessorize a bit with your case, the SeeThru comes in 6 colors (well actually 5 plus clear) Emerald Green, Amethyst Purple, Garnet Red, Quartz Pink, Obsidian Black and Diamond Clear.

The case also adds almost nothing to any dimension of your phone. If you want a case that won’t bulk up your iPhone the SeeThru would be a good choice. Although we didn’t try it, Speck states that you can also use most screen protecters with the SeeThru.

Of course the thinness of the case walls mean that in a dropped phone scenario it probably won’t do as much as other, thicker walled cases to protect your phone. We don’t know that of course because we haven’t and won’t test this assumption. The case will, however, do a fine job of protecting your phone from normal, everyday wear and tear. You know what we’re talking about: the kind of normal daily use that results in scratches into the plastic parts of the iPhone.

stand
The one big detractor to our SeeThru review unit is that the bottom part of the case doesn’t snap as securely into the top as we’d like. The little tabs that are supposed to snap into the indents in the top of the case simply don’t protrude enough to do the job. Consequently, the bottom comes off a bit too easily. Perhaps we just got a less then perfect evaluation unit.

Ultimately we were actually a little surprised at how much we liked the SeeThru. The thin walled design doesn’t detract at all from the iPhones sleek lines and ultra cool form factor. The cut-outs actually function well and allow you to access all the buttons and ports quickly and easily. The convertible bottom piece/stand is a nice touch as well.

We’re not sure the case is worth the MSRP of $29.95 but at the Holiday sale price of $14.97 it’s a steal and would make a nice stocking stuffer for any of your iPhone toting loved ones.

AYAAW Recommends the SeeThru. If it hadn’t been for the bottom part of the case not snapping securely into the top, the SeeThru probably would’ve received an A or A- and the coveted AYAAW “Highly Recommended” rating.
