More-thing Storm Backup Battery

Are you suffering from Black Friday shopping overload? Did you over indulge on Cyber Monday? Never fear we're hear to help! We've found a great stocking stuffer that we know your iPhone/iPod Touch using loved one would really appreciate: Storm Backup Battery from More-Thing.

The battery is rated at 1900mAh and More-thing claims it'll give an extra 6 hour of talking time or a full charge to your iPhone or iPod Touch. The battery is roughly the same width and depth as an iPhone 3G and sports four blue LED indicator lights to let you know how much charge is left in the unit. To charge the battery you just plug it into your computer via a normal iPhone/iPod cable. The charging port is located at the bottom of the battery opposite the male plug that you'd insert into you phone or iPod. The Storm uses Apple’s standard 30 pin iPhone/iPod dock connector so its compatible with most iPods. To the right of the charging LED’s there’s also a button that when pressed tells you how much charge is left in the unit.

To test More-things charging claim we let our iPhone discharge until it was at the 5% level. We then plugged the battery into the phone and checked every 15 minutes to note the charge level on the phone and how many LED's were lit on the Storm. Here are our findings:



To summarize, the backup battery seems to have fully charged our iPhone in 2.75 hours. The iPhone battery indicator actually claimed it was fully charged after 2 hours but we're not so sure about that. Our experience with the iPhones battery meter is such that, well we just don't trust it very far. Be that as it may, More-thing's Storm Backup Battery did fully charge our iPhone in a very reasonable amount of time. We could've, of course, started using our phone immediately after attaching the Storm but we wanted to see how long it would take to fully charge the phone.

We also timed how long it took to charge the Storm. In our testing it fully charged in right around three hours.

The best thing about the Storm is that we can now forgo toting around our iPhone's USB cable and power adapter. The Storms small size makes it perfect for stuffing into an empty purse or messenger bag pocket. We like the Storm very much and highly recommend it.
